Skiing Gear Guide

Over the years I’ve learned to ski downhill, cross-country and telemark (the latter is still a work in progress). All of these disciplines require different types of skis and bindings, and therefore I’ve acquired a number of different skis over the years.

I first learned to downhill ski on regular alpine skis. In Iran I lived less than 90 minutes drive from a number of big resorts. The lift passes were cheap and the slopes normally quiet.

One day, at the suggestion of a friend, I tried cross-country. I found the skinny skis hard to control at first but the freedom of getting away from the resorts and satisfaction of traveling from A to B without the use of lifts made up for it.

As I mastered the free-heel nordic skis I wanted to find something that accommodated my love of whizzing down the slopes but also offered an opportunity to get into the backcountry. It was at this point I decided to purchase telemark skis.

In this section I want to talk a little bit about the skis I own, what I like and don’t like about them, and also offer some advice to consider when purchasing your own gear.

This section is divided into three:

Downhill Ski Gear Guide

Cross-Country Ski Gear Guide

Telemark Ski Gear Guide

Telemark skis give you the freedom to head off into the backcountry. If you stop and take the off don’t let them blow away!
